A Green Economy National Council has been set up by 53 companies active in the green economy, to ensure a follow-up to the success of the green economy Estates General held in Rimini in November 2012 and promote the development of the green economy in Italy.

The Council will be a forum for debate, analysis, recommendations and initiatives involving corporate organisations from a variety of sectors, to give greater strength and weight to a shared vision and common action. It also promotes discussion with the government – specifically, the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Economic Development – to achieve one or more agreements for implementation of the 70-point program launched by the Estates General, starting with a series of priorities.

The National Council has assigned the task of organising and supporting its operations to the Foundation for Sustainable Development; this includes special workgroups to organise the second edition of the green economy Estates General to be held in November 2013 as part of Ecomondo.
