The World Bank, which provides financing for developing nations, and Alcantara, an Italian company that produces the eponymous luxury material used in various fields – automotives, interior design, fashion, advanced technology – are meeting up for Design Week in Milan (9-14 April) to discuss design and sustainability in a series of debates entitled “Dialogues Alcantara/Connect4Climate: Re-Think, Re-Design, Re-New”.

The initiative brings together World Bank and Alcantara’s commitment to sustainability and their shared intention of responding to climate change, presenting a series of activities to show how art (design, fashion and entertainment) and sustainability can work together to create social, economic and environmental synergies. A form of public/private cooperation which, as World Bank President Jim Yong Kim observes, aims to “stimulate new conversations with influencers from a wide variety of disciplines and create a greater understanding of how sustainable design and business practices can impact and change behaviour to mitigate climate change”.

The Connect4Climate/Alcantara pavilion at the TemporaryMuseum for New Design will be opened on Tuesday 9 April, at a ceremony attended by Italy’s Minister for the Environment, Corrado Clini.
